Adolescence is a great time to learn and embrace a low carb lifestyle because this is a time when the body has a harder time using carbohydrates for energy, which can manifest itself physically or emotionally. A low carb lifestyle re-energizes the metabolism and boosts metabolic health which can translate into healthier and happier kids.
My daughter Alexa, who lives a low-carb lifestyle, assisted in developing the low carb program. This addition is so important in order to gain a full understanding of how to educate and support young children when it comes to dietary change and understanding how to make healthier choices.
In this podcast, I discuss how to help create a low carb lifestyle for the entire family. It is never too early for kids to learn about what "eating healthy' actually means. I give some tips on how to start to create this lifestyle for the family.
This 2-part GROUP workshop will introduce the idea of healthy low carb nutrition to teens. In Part I, the kids will be educated about the effects of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats on the body, with a specific focus on processed foods and sugar. They will learn and understand what happens to their bodies when they eat these types of foods. The focus will be on the benefits of a low carb lifestyle such as clearer skin, increased energy levels, improved mood, and better academic and athletic performance. Part II will be an interactive session where the kids will learn creative, fun, and easy ways to find healthier foods and snacks. A minimum of 6 kids is required. Sessions last approximately 1 hour (45 minute presentation plus 15 minutes for questions/discussion). Cost: $250/child. Parent attendance (at least sitting within an earshot) is required. The minimum age for attendance is 12 years old. In-person group sessions are also available in San Diego.
