WHAT IS BEHAVIORAL NUTRITION?
Behavioral Nutrition is an emerging field and can be thought of as the link between psychology and nutrition which focuses on the behavioral aspects of nutrition and environmental factors affecting these behaviors.
WHAT IS A BEHAVIORAL NUTRITIONIST?
First and foremost, I am a Behavioral Nutritionist. I received a Ph.D. in Behavioral Nutrition from Columbia University in 2011. The education that I acquired in this amazing program draws on the strong research agendas of Columbia faculty in health behavior studies and health education, psychology, behavioral nutrition, nutrition education, nutritional epidemiology, nutritional ecology, and exercise physiology.
BEHAVIORAL NUTRITION & A LOW-CARB/KETO LIFESTYLE
Behavioral nutrition research clearly shows that lasting changes in dietary lifestyle behaviors are much more successful when programs incorporate nutrition education as well as behavior modification techniques based on psychosocial theories and models, such as the Stages of Change Model, the Social Cognitive Theory, and the Health Belief Model.
The process of acquiring behavioral skills while making a transition to and maintaining a low-carb/keto lifestyle is critical for success. Changing life-long food behaviors is not an easy process. The key to moving toward and maintaining health goals is to try new techniques and find ways to stay motivated. The incorporation of this robust behavioral component into my Programs has translated into a countless number of very successful transitions and commitments to a low-carb/keto lifestyle and the associated health and weight loss goals that come along with it.
